Weird New England Your Guide to New England Local Legends and Best Kept Secrets Joseph A Citro Mark Moran Mark Sceurman 9781402778421 Books Reviews

  • There is a lot of interesting information in here. I am just disappointed there isn't better information about how to find some of these places. There is a section about steps carved in a boulder and the author even notes that the locals didn't know where to find it . . . it would have been great if the author had let us know where to find it. Instead, you just read about it but if you want to visit the boulder you'll have to figure it out for yourself.
There is also a page or two about a glowing gravestone in the South St. cemetery in Portsmouth, NH. Again, no clues about how to find the glowing stone. That cemetery is HUGE so it's not like someone can figure it out based on the information in the book.
That is disappointing. I bought the book so I could find new and interesting things to see in this area. Directions would have been helpful.
  • I'm so glad I discovered Joseph Citro. I've begun reading all of his books since the first one I read, "Shadow Child" was so good and scary. He writes fiction and non-fiction and this book is non-fiction. All of the New England states are covered and I was surprised at how weird Connecticut is! I love reading about weird places and Mr. Citro does an excellent job in describing weird places in New England and scaring the reader in the process. Also, he is a proficient writer who excels at presenting facts in a clear, concise, suspenseful fashion. I think he is as good as Stephen King.
  • This is a terrific, fun family book for recent transplants to New England. I'm pretty sure the folks who receive this gift will plan some fun trips to include some "weird" destinations that are educational and funny. it was the whale tales on the cover that grabbed my attention, but there is lots more. Directions for finding the sites are very specific and helpful.
  • Living in New England and riding motorcycles to many of these destination points is fun. Fun reading, all the weird books are great.
  • This was a gift for my boyfriend. Since we’re both from New England, we figured why not get this and plan a road trip? It’s a really good book
  • This is a great book full of curious local treasures which may be close by but you'd never even heard of! Plenty of ideas for road trips! I have one and have given two as gifts. People love them!
  • Actually my husband loved it. He had a hard time putting it down and told me many of the incidents.
  • Very good
